Both versions share the same physical footprint, battery family, and accessory ecosystem, so fleets can standardize on one form factor while phasing in digital capabilities at their own pace. When the time is right, a simple software upgrade unlocks full DMR Tier II operation, turning an existing fleet of analog portables into a network of Motorola DMR radios without replacing chargers, batteries, or carry accessories.
