Citizen Group Committee seeks volunteers to play a role

A coordinated network of volunteers helps strengthen the community’s ability to prevent, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters. Other popular volunteer groups are the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), which provide backup and auxiliary communications in emergency situations when traditional communication systems fail or are overloaded.
"All these plans are in addition to existing public resources and first responders," Adhold said. "They empower citizens so that they can take action to protect their homes and communities."
