Conference visitors were able to meet with many ARRL officials and staff, including K5UR Chairman Rick Roderick; NA2AA CEO David Minster; Membership, Marketing and Communications Director Kathleen Callahan (KC1MBY) and Product Development Manager Bob Inderbitzen (NQ1R). There are also many Southeastern officials, department managers and field organization volunteers on the ARRL booth.
Popiel's new book "More Arduino for Ham Radio" is now available for purchase from ARRL and its distributors. Other forums include the latest situation of the head of the International Space Station Amateur Radio (ARISS), the ARRL Member Hall, and the opportunity to hear the opinions of the leaders of the ARRL Alabama Division on key areas of volunteer activities, including the Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES®) ).
The conference is held annually at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, but has to be cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ARRL author Glen Popiel, KW5GP, used this microprocessor prototype platform to show off a forum about Arduino and various amateur radio applications.
He shared the story and photos of DXpedition's visit to Bhutan in 2019, where he operated as A50BOC, A50BPC and A5B.
The youth lounge of the conference provided opportunities for young hams and future hams to listen and broadcast. Robotics, 3D printing, and activities including radio direction finding "fox hunting" and kit construction were also showcased.
“For many of us, this is our return to a large face-to-face meeting after almost 18 months,” Inderbitzen said. "There is a lot of crowds, but the organizers have expanded the exhibits and widened the aisles to allow enough physical distance to be maintained. It's great to have so many eyes of members and friends that I missed."
Volunteers from the North Alabama DX Club (NADXC) hosted a packed banquet on Saturday night, which included a speech by DXpeditioner Adrian Ciuperca from KO8SCA.
Just before his travel agenda, Ciuperca will be a member of the DXpedition team to Swains and Bouvet in 2022. NADXC members are also on standby throughout the conference to help check applications for DXCC and other ARRL awards.
