Lewiston, New York-A new emergency communications tower was built and put into use in Lewiston. The new tower is part of an effort to strengthen emergency communications throughout Niagara County.
Lewiston Police Chief Frank Previte (Frank Previte) said: "This much-needed addition demonstrates the commitment to the safety of police officers and first responders and emphasizes the partnership between municipalities to achieve this goal."
The tower is located behind the Lewiston Town Highway Garage and is the beginning of an initiative to strengthen emergency communications throughout Niagara County. The new site will increase the coverage of the digital radio system.
Funds from the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Statewide Interoperable Communications Grants were used to build the tower. The property where the tower is located is leased to Niagara County from the Town of Lewiston.
