Lexus Australia designs two cars that can communicate with traffic lights, trams and emergency vehicles

This is achieved through cooperation with Australia's Integrated Multi-Mode Ecosystem (AIMES), which is a real-world vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication technology test environment. Two Lexus RX 450h SUVs can communicate with traffic lights, trams and emergency service vehicles, and proactively warn and warn drivers of potential dangers before the vehicles appear in the driver’s line of sight.
Lexus will develop and test further applications, including alerting when a driver tries to enter a one-way street or highway entrance/exit in the wrong way, when an emergency vehicle approaches, or when entering an intersection may be unsafe.
Lexus’ goal is to use the test to develop applications, such as warning drivers when turning in front of a streetcar, or warning drivers when cyclists or pedestrians press a button on a traffic light to cross the road-including challenging ones "Curve"'Intersection point.
Lexus said that how the test vehicle communicates with other vehicles and the local environment is critical to building a cohesive ecosystem between drivers and other road users to ensure that drivers are warned of potential hazards in advance.
Trying out this technology can reduce the risk of running a red light, driving into a tram, or being unable to see pedestrians blocked by traffic lights and other infrastructure before they are on the road. Australian CEO Scott Thompson said that Lexus is committed to investing in a broad ecosystem of new technologies to achieve higher vehicle safety standards.

Lexus Australia’s cooperation with AIMES builds on the previous C-ITS trials in collaboration with the Victoria and Queensland governments, which will end in 2020.
AIMES is a collaborative project of government, transportation and technology partners led by the University of Melbourne. The collaboration also sees practical trials using advanced Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS) technology to provide key research to provide next-generation road safety solutions.
In Victoria, Lexus Australia participated in the Victorian Advanced Connected Car Project. In Queensland, Lexus Australia is cooperating with the Department of Transport (Queensland) in Ipswich, southwest of Brisbane, and the Autonomous Vehicle Initiative (CAVI).
Since 2015, Lexus has successfully demonstrated DSRC technology for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications in Japan. These tests have allowed Lexus to develop applications such as warning drivers of red lights ahead, pedestrians about to cross the road at traffic lights, and warning drivers of slow or stopped vehicles, road works, or road hazards (such as water or debris). This will continue to be tested in this trial.
The software for the new Melbourne trial was developed locally by Lexus Australian engineers, specifically targeting the city’s unique traffic environment and regulations.
The AIMES test is located on the AIMES test bed and includes a six-square-kilometer area spanning Carlton, Fitzroy and Collingwood, bordering Victoria Parade, Hoddle Street, Alexandra Parade and Lygon Street.
In addition to connected vehicles, the AIMES pilot area also integrates a smart sensor network that connects public transportation, pedestrians and cyclists, intersections and streets into a fully integrated ecosystem.
